Morning Ritual Ideas to Empower Your Day

I used to wake up, brush my teeth, get ready for work, drive to get coffee and a donut on my way to the office, and repeat the same things the next day. Funny enough, when the pandemic hit, and I started working from home, I realized that I needed that caffeine and sugar every morning because I was exhausted and treated myself like a robot.

That’s when I started to develop my morning routine, and it changed my life. I think that’s is the one good thing that came out of the lockdowns is that it made us slow down. We didn’t have to rush to be anywhere.

Self-awareness, especially regarding our daily routines and actions, is vital. Sometimes, we don’t even realize how much of an effect our daily habits can have on us. According to research, having even a simple routine will help you in maintaining good mental and physical well-being. That is why it's important to develop a conscious morning ritual. Most of the Successful people I read about have some type of a morning routine, so here are some tips to get you started.

How should I start my morning routine?

I like to refer to my routines as rituals. This way, they are more intentional and make me feel grateful that I get to have my rituals and not just a list of tasks that I have to do. I like to focus on three things in my morning ritual - maintaining my physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being. Here are some ritual ideas to help you start with your morning routine.

Emotional well being

In order to support your emotional well-being, try including journaling in your morning routine. Sometimes, if I wake up anxious, I like to take my journal or laptop (whatever works for you) and write down all the thoughts in my head, small and big things I have to do. Trust me, writing everything down will help you to ease your anxiety. I then look at my list, choose the most important tasks that need my attention, and schedule them into my day.

Morning affirmations

Morning affirmations are my favorite, even though they might seem silly sometimes. I have my favorite affirmations written in my notes app on my phone. Sometimes, I screenshot them and make them my phone wallpaper.

Depending on what you are going through or what your goals are, your morning affirmations will look different. My favorite place to look for affirmations is Pinterest. I also have a board on my jewelry Pinterest account where I constantly add new affirmations. You can also go on Youtube, type morning affirmations, and listen to them while you are still in bed.

Spiritual well being

It doesn’t matter if you are religious or not. Adding a spiritual practice to your morning ritual will help you feel at peace. You can start with a morning prayer or meditation. For meditations, I love using the app called Insight Timer. They have many free guiding meditations to choose from.

Practise Gratitude

While you are still in bed, close your eyes and try to choose three things you are grateful for. If you are having a hard time choosing things to be grateful for, try reading your body. How does it feel? Can you wiggle your toes? Isn’t something to be grateful for?

Gratitude doesn’t have to be about something big. Look around your room, what are the small things that bring you happiness? Writing down the things you are grateful for is a beautiful practice. Sometimes, when I wake up and feel down, I like to read the things I wrote in the past that I was grateful for, which helps to put everything into perspective.

Physical well being

One of the things I like to do to support my physical well-being is to drink a glass of lukewarm water right after I wake up and do a morning stretch, at least for five minutes. I tend to wake up pretty swollen in the morning, so I like to stretch my body, starting with the neck and shoulders, to help with lymph draining. If I’m feeling more productive, I will search for a 15min morning yoga routine on Youtube or go for a morning walk.

Depending on where you are in your period cycle, you will feel different about what type of physical activity you can do. Learn to feel your body, and don’t feel bad if you are not lifting weights every morning at the gym. Try balancing out your exercises throughout the month, learn to feel your body and what it needs that day, then adjust your morning routine accordingly.

Self Care

Self-care is probably one of the things that I get excited about the most. I love taking 5-10 min in the morning to take care of my hygiene and do my beauty routine, which I have simplified over the years. It includes splashing my face with water and adding a Vitamin C serum, moisturizer, and sunscreen. I instantly feel more confident and happy.

Regardless of what you include in your morning rituals, you should always do something to take care of yourself. Building those small habits will lead to positive changes in your life. Research shows that people who follow even a simple morning routine are more productive and successful and feel less stressed and more content in their life.

So, my loves, I hope you give it a try. Don’t be too hard on yourself. We, as women, already have so much on our plates every day. Start incorporating small changes weekly to your morning ritual, feel what is right for you, and I promise you will start seeing the difference in how you feel right away.
